Guest Artist Q&A with STUDIO4°C

The cutscene animations and characters for Doodle Champion Island Games were created by Tokyo, Japan-based animation studio, STUDIO4°C. Below they share their thoughts behind the making of this Doodle:

Q. Can you tell us about your creative process for adapting each of the characters in the Doodle?

First, we identified stories and folktales from all over the country with characters that are highly recognized. Next, we connected those folktales and characters with each of the sport events included in the game. In the design process, each event champion was selected from those unique stories. The team mascots and the characters in the city such as Kappa, Yatagarasu, lion dance, were also chosen as they are very well known across Japan. Each character’s design was based on their original story image, but then adapted for the game.

Q. What’s your team’s favorite aspect of the Doodle?

Lucky the Ninja Cat, who is both cool and cute, is definitely a favorite aspect!

We're pleased that we were able to allude to various stories from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south in the Doodle. Besides drawing inspiration from stories known across Japan, we also hoped to convey the rich and diverse natural beauty of the country, including underwater, sandy tropical beaches, forests, and snowy mountains.

Q: Does your team have any favorite characters or sports that appear in the Doodle?

Character: The stone guardians. They can be a bit scary given that they’re lions, but we love how charming they are in the game’s final design. We think the fact that they serve as gatekeepers in Japanese culture made it interesting to have them serve as guides in the game.

Sport: Table tennis! The combination of Tengu and table tennis is not something you'd find in the traditional folktale, but we think it was a fitting combination given the nature of the Tengu, who holds a fan and moves swiftly.

Q. What does your team hope people take away from this Doodle game?

First, we hope people enjoy the game and make it to the end! But also convey that by completing the mini games, Lucky brings happiness in the form of flowers and dangos…which will be a treat to everyone in the world! Also, only Champions know how hard Lucky worked. In other words, we want to convey that joy can result from the focus and hard work of every one of us, which is not always recognized by others. We’re also hoping for a sanshoku dango (three colored dumplings) trend :)

Laga pilihan UCL pekan ini dapat ditonton melalui siaran langsung SCTV, sedangkan total 16 laga dari Grup A hingga H dapat dipantau via live streaming Vidio.

Update klasemen Liga Champion 2023/2024 hingga matchday 2 memang belum menunjukkan siapa tim yang berhak lolos 16 besar. Namun, ada tim yang masih mempertahankan rekor 100 persen kemenangan, yaitu Bayern Munchen (Grup A), Real Madrid (Grup C), Manchester City (Grup G), dan Barcelona (Grup H).

Sementara itu, sesuai labelnya sebagai grup neraka, Grup F menciptakan kesulitan besar bagi PSG dan AC Milan. Kedua klub tersebut justru ada di peringkat 2 dan 3 klasemen UCL 2023/2024. Les Parisiens dan Rossoneri tertinggal oleh Newcastle, tim kuda hitam asal Inggris yang berhasil mendapatkan 4 angka. The Magpies seri di kandang Milan, lantas membungkam Paris di St James' Park.

Jadwal Liga Champions 2023/2024 pekan ini dimulai dengan laga Inter vs Salzburg pada Selasa (24/10) pukul 23.45 WIB di Stadion Giuseppe Meazza. Pada waktu yang sama, Bayern Munich melakukan kunjungan ke Stadion Ali Sami Yen, Istanbul, Turki, melawan tuan rumah Galatasaray.

Pada Rabu (25/10), terdapat 6 laga kick-off pukul 02.00 WIB. Manchester United yang tidak kunjung mendapatkan angka di UCL bakal menerima kunjungan FC Kopenhagen di Stadion Old Trafford. Sementara itu, big match Sevilla vs Arsenal digeber di Stadion Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Berikutnya, raksasa Spanyol, Real Madrid, ditantang wakil Portugal, Braga di Stadion Municipal de Braga.

Pertandingan Rabu (25/10) malam hari pukul 23.45 WIB akan diisi 2 laga. Barcelona menghadapi Shakhtar Donetsk di Stadion Olímpic Lluís Companys. Dalam laga lain, terjadi duel Feyenoord kontra Lazio di Stadion De Kuip, Rotterdam.

Terakhir, 6 pertandingan sisa UCL pekan ini akan dimainkan pada Kamis (26/10) pukul 02.00 WIB. Bentrok PSG vs Milan (Grup F) berlangsung di Stadion Parc des Princes, Paris. Masih di grup yang sama, tim Premier League, Newcastle United bersua Borussia Dortmund di Stadion St James' Park.

Juara bertahan Manchester City sudah ditunggu klub asal Swiss, BSC Young Boys, di Stadion Wankdorf, Bern. Layak ditunggu apakah The Citizens, Bayern, Real Madrid, dan Barcelona masih tetap menjaga rekor 100 persen pekan ini.

Jadwal Liga Champion 2023 PSG vs AC Milan Live di Mana?

Persaingan ketat bakal terus terjadi di Grup F. Newcastle yang berada di puncak klasemen lewat 4 poin belum tentu bertahan di matchday 3. PSG dan AC Milan siap menyerobot. Tidak dapat diabaikan adalah Dortmund yang menghuni juru kunci lewat 1 angka.

PSG mempunyai kans naik ke peringkat 1 andai bisa mengatasi AC Milan, sedangkan Newcastle tergelincir oleh Dortmund. Tim yang ditukangi Luis Enrique itu bakal memaksimalkan kondisi Rossoneri yang belum meraup kemenangan di pentas Eropa musim ini.

Usai tumbang 4-1 di tangan Newcastle, Les Parisiens sudah memperbaiki performa lewat 2 kemenangan beruntun di Ligue 1 atas Rennes (1-3) dan Strasbourg (3-0). Ketajaman lini depan PSG terlihat dengan total 6 gol dalam 2 laga itu.

"Ini salah satu grup terberat yang pernah ada di Liga Champions. Kami akan terus berjuang sampai akhir," ucap Davide Calabria, kapten tim Milan, dikutip laman UEFA.

Newcastle juga berpeluang besar mempertahankan posisi di puncak Grup F dan bersaing ketat dengan PSG. Tim yang diasuh manager Eddie Howe itu akan bertemu klub terlemah, Dortmund, di kandang sendiri. Skuad Die Borussen belum mampu mencetak gol di UCL 2023/2024. Mereka dihajar PSG 2-0 dan imbang 0-0 kontra Milan.

"Kami harus menunjukkan kepada semua orang di mana posisi kami. Kami bermain menyerang, menekan dan harus melakukan itu. Kami harus menguji para pemain bertahan mereka (Dortmund) dan membuat kiper berada di bawah tekanan," beber Kieran Trippier, pilar The Magpies.
